A beam of laser light which vaporises the upper layers of damaged skin is used for laser resurfacing. It is used for areas of uneven pigmentation, facial scars, sun damaged skin and acne.
There two ways for the skin to be resurfaced:
Erbium Laser – modest improvement. Quicker return to work
Carbon Dioxide Laser – often done in conjunction with eyelid surgery or
facelift.
No incisions are made as this procedure in non-invasive. It can take anything
from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the area that
needs to be treated. Red heads, blondes and brunettes are most suitable for
this treatment as the have pale skin.
PRE-OPERATIVE
• All make up must be removed
• Strictly adhere to the pre operative regime
POST -OPERATIVE
• 1-2 week off work is recommended
• The swelling and bruising will subside after a few weeks.
• Scabs will form leave them to fall off themselves
• No contact sports or swimming for 4 weeks
• Sun block must be used for 6 – 12 months
• No make up for at least 5-7 days
• Skin may look pink, this can take up to 2 months to subside
• Strictly adhere to the post operative regime
